Test: Prone Press Up

Video Link

Background/Purpose

Procedure

This test will assess backward bending in a non-postural/weight bearing position. Patient lies prone with arms at sides and elbows bent under axilla. Patient then pushes arms into table and extends trunk as high as possible using hands and upper body. A fail may indicate a mobility problem with spinal extension. A pass may indicate a stability problem with spinal extension while weight bearing. If the patient's pelvis rises off the table, an airex pad may be used but they should be able to maintain contact with the pad and ASIS.
Performed: Bilaterally
