Test: Posture: Pelvis

Video Link

Background/Purpose

Postural analysis can be used to understand static loading forces. The interpretation of these results may point to some underlying tightness or weakness issues or it may represent an adequately compensated stability strategy. The results should be correlated with other examination findings. For pelvic structures it is also important to look at the lower extremity symmetry as well.

Procedure

The subject is asked to stand with no shoes and their feet side by side.
Clinician stands behind the subject and visually assess the pelvis bilaterally. It is often helpful to palpate for these structures which include the top of the iliac crest, the Posterior Superior Iliac Spine and the Ischial tuberosity.
If there is asymmetry in height or rotation of these structures then the test is considered a fail.
Performed: Unilaterally
