Video Link

Background/Purpose

This test is used to assess subacromial impingement or AC joint damage.
There may be tenison or laxity in the posterior capsule of the shoulder that could affect results as well.

Procedure

With the patient standing or sitting, the testing side is placed into 90 degrees of flexion and is then placed into horizontal adduction by bringing the arm to the opposite shoulder. The test is considered a pass if there is full range of motion and no pain.
The test is considered a fail if there is pain in the tested shoulder or the patient is not able to reach a full range of motion.
