Video Link
Background/Purpose
This test is performed the same as the Single Leg Stance -Eyes Open test but by closing the eyes, the visual sensory system is eliminated.
Procedure
With their eyes open, the subject stands with arms at sides and feet together pointing forward. Patient is instructed to lift their lower extremity so that their hip and knee are at 90 degrees.
The clinician assumes a position so they can assist the subject with balance if they begin to fall.
Once the the subject is steady, they are asked to close their eyes. The subject should maintain this position for 10 seconds. The patient should maintain balance and posture throughout the test. The foot and arms should not move much with this test. The physician should observe from the front and the side to ensure good posture and position.
Performed: Unilaterally
