Test: Greater Trochanter Level - Posture
Video Link
Background/Purpose
Evaluation of the height of the greater trochanters on the femur can be helpful in determining leg length inequalities.
Procedure
The subject is asked to stand with no shoes and their feet side by side.
Clinician stands behind the subject and visually assess the height of the greater trochanters of the femur. It is often helpful to palpate for these structures.
If there is a visible difference of the height of the trochanters, the test is given a "fail".
A symmetry can indicate a structural difference in the femur or tibia or perhaps a functional deficit in the foot.
Performed: Unilaterally
