Test: Champagne Toast Position
Video Link
Background/Purpose
While Jobe’s test is widely used, it does not isolate supraspinatus activity. There is activation of other muscles such as the deltoid and upper trapezius and infraspinatus. On a relative basis, the champagne toast test provides greater isolation of the supraspinatus relative to the deltoid than Jobe's test does.
Procedure
Shoulder is placed in 30 degrees of abduction, 30 degrees of forward elevation, and mild external rotation. Restance is applied with a downward pressure by the clinician.
