Test: Costoclavicular (Eden's, Military Brace) Test

Background/Purpose

This test provides particularly relevant information in subjects who display symptoms while carrying heavy items, wearing backpacks or other heavy items around the shoulders.
The test reproduces symptoms due to compression of the clavicle against the first rib and compresses the neuro-vascular structures.

Procedure

Subject seated, examiner bilaterally palpates radial pulse & pulls patient’s arms into extension (“exaggerated military posture”)
Performed: Unilaterally

Dialog

Palpate radial pulse with arms/shoulders depressed.

Criteria

• Pulse amplitude intact
• No reproduction of symptoms
