Test: Distraction Test - Sacroiliac Joint

Video Link

Background/Purpose

The sacroiliac distraction test is used as part of a series of tests (Laslett cluster) to determine if the sacroiliac joint (SIJ) is involved in a patient's pain production. Although this tests lacks sensitivity and specificity in isolation, it does provide a better predicting value in combination with the other tests in the Laslett cluster.

Procedure

Subject lies supine on the table and the clinician applies a posterior to anterior pressure on the anterior superior iliac spine bilaterally. T
The presumed effect is a distraction or gapping of the anterior joint and therefore a stress on the anterior ligament.
Performed: Bilaterally
