Background/Purpose
Procedure
This test is used to identify benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Patients are lowered quickly onto their back with the neck extended by the clinician. A positive test reproduces vertigo and the observation of nystagmus. A modification targets the posterior semicircular canal by having the patient moving from a seated position to side-lying without their head extending off the examination table, The head is rotated 45 degrees to the side being tested, and the eyes are examined for nystagmus.
Performed: Bilaterally
