Video Link
Background/Purpose
Procedure
The purpose of this test is to assess the interplay between the abdominals and iliopsoas muscles. The physician uses this movement to determine the patient's preferred motion pattern. Procedure: Patient in hook lying supine position with hands on ASIS Cue: Curl up to touch your knees. Movement complete when scapula elevates off table. Physician may also place hands under the heels to check for pressing into the table which is not desired. Ideal pattern: Upper abdominals contract to flex thoracic spine Lower back flattens and pelvis posteriorly tilts Common faults: Heels come off table(hip flexor dominance) Anterior tilt of pelvis There is no “Janda crunch†exercise. This motion is used as a test not an exercise.
Performed: Bilaterally
