Test: Supine Knee to Chest Holding Shins

Video Link

Background/Purpose

Procedure

This test will assess the mobility of the hips in a non-postural position. Patient lays supine in the table and brings both knees to their chest. Patient pulls shins and holds knees again chest. This test is similar to the prone rocking test but will be not involve the knees to the same extent with forced flexion. If the patient can not fully flex the knees, have them grad the thighs instead of the shins. A fail may indicate hip joint mobility dysfunction or posterior tissue dysfunction. A pass may indicate posterior tissue tension (mobility) or a stability/motor control problem of the hip.
Performed: Bilaterally
