Test: Assisted Deep Squat
Video Link
Background/Purpose
Procedure
This test will assess the range of motion required to perform an overhead deep squat but with a reduced load requirement.
The patient stands barefoot in front of the examiner. The patient reaches to the examiners hands for support as they lower down to perform the squat motion. If the patient achieves a full ROM, bring the patient's hands over head and try to let go. Make sure the foot stays in contact with the ground throughout the whole motion and balance is maintained.
If the patient is able to perform a full depth squat with assistance then this should indicate a likely stability deficit.
If the patient is unable to perform the motion even with assistance, there may be a stability or mobility problem or both. Perform additional isolated testing to identify the possible areas.
Performed: Bilaterally
